YAMAGUCHI – Japanese fashion company Fast Retailing – owners of Uniqlo – has signed up to the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, sponsored by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The charter supports the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement in limiting global temperature rise to well below two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and specifies measures for the entire fashion industry to implement, focusing on a 30 per cent aggregate reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030, including supply chains.
Fast Retailing says it has already been implementing measures to determine and reduce its GHG emissions from all business activities, from procurement of raw materials to manufacturing processes, distribution, and store operations.
