2020 could very well be the year of the movie remakes, as there are plenty of re-boots and remakes hitting the silver screen this year.
There’s one that we’re all super excited about: ‘DOLITTLE’.
A remake of the 1998 classic ‘Dr. Dolittle’, the new ‘DOLITTLE’ movie stars and features the voices of a bevy of A-list celebrities such as Robert Downey Jr, Antonio Banderas, Marion Cotillard and Rami Malek, to name a few.
‘DOLITTLE’ follows Dr. John Dolittle, who lives in solitude behind the high walls of his lush manor in 19th-century England.
His only companionship comes from an array of exotic animals that he speaks to on a daily basis.
But when young Queen Victoria becomes gravely ill, the eccentric doctor and his furry friends embark on an epic adventure to a mythical island to find the cure.
Before you catch ‘DOLITTLE’ in cinemas this 23 January 2020, we’ve round up some interesting tidbits you need to know about the movie (to help you sound like a movie expert when you’re catching it with your friends, you see):
#1 Iron Man no more
We all know what happened to RDJ’s character in his last superhero film, so if you miss some of those RDJ action, you’ll be glad to know that he plays the titular character in ‘DOLITTLE’. In fact, this is RDJ’s first non-Iron Man role since 2014’s ‘The Judge’.
#2 Oscar winners and nominees everywhere!
Speaking of a star-studded cast, right? There are a total of five Oscar winners and
three Oscar nominees starring in ‘DOLITTLE’. The Oscar winners are: Rami Malek, Marion Cotillard, Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent and Octavia Spencer. The Oscar nominees in the movie are: RDJ, Ralph Fiennes, and Kumail Nanjiani.
#3 The RDJ and Tom Holland bromance
If you’re a fan of the whole RDJ-Tom Holland bromance from the ‘Avengers’ days, you’ll be glad to know that they will be sharing the spotlight once again in ‘DOLITTLE’. In fact, this will be the fifth movie they’ve starred in together in a span of five years.
#4 Its original title is a mouthful
‘DOLITTLE’ is a pretty good title, because the name Dolittle is iconic, but did you know that the original title for the new movie was ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’? Because the producers think it’s quite a mouthful to pronounce, they shortened it to just ‘DOLITTLE’ in August 2019. Good call, we reckon.
#5 The Dr Dolittle connection
The connection between the old ‘Dr Dolittle’ movies extends beyond just the title and the name of the main character. RDJ’s birthday falls on 4 April meanwhile Eddie Murphy, who played Dr Dolittle in the original movies, celebrates his birthday on 3 April. Coincidence? We think not.
Excited to catch RDJ and the all-star cast in action? You don’t need to wait too long!
‘DOLITLLE’ is set to hit Malaysian cinemas on 23 January 2020, so remember to grab a couple of your animal-loving friends for a night of massive fun.
